Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed Chandika Hathurusingha as the coach of the Bangladesh national team mainly because there is no engagement of him in franchise cricket, and Hathurusingha’s past experience has also played a role. However, even if he is appointed as the head coach of three formats, his necessary vacation will also be considered – said BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon.

The board had been looking for a new coach ever since the departure of Russell Domingo and the expiration of Sridharan Sriram’s contract. There were some names on that list. However, Hathurusingha was the most talked about.

However, Papon explained why Hathurusingha was chosen in the end. He said, “There are many reasons… one is past experience. More importantly, he is the only coach who… the high-level coaches that we want, even at the mid-level, if we go looking for them, either they can’t stay that long, they look for days. 150 days, 200 days… It doesn’t go above 200. Many others are involved in various franchises, vacation will be needed. If there is a game in the national team during the holiday, who will take care of the team.”

Hathurusingha basically got the edge because he didn’t have these preoccupations. Papon added, “We understand that Hathurusingha does not have these things. He continues the job that he takes.

He went New South Wales, stayed in New South Wales. He comes with BCB then, now he’ll stay only in Bangladesh. This is his advantage. According to the contract, vacation will be given surely, it is obvious. There is no commitment beyond that.”

Hathurusingha’s current contract with BCB is for 2 years. However, the board chief indicates that the board has called him again with the preparation of extending the contract.

Meanwhile, Chandika Hathurusingha said that it is an honor to return as the coach of Bangladesh. This Lankan coach made such comments after getting the responsibility of the Tigers’ head coach again.

Hathurusingha has been given the responsibility of all three formats as the head coach of the Bangladesh national team. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the matter in the media on Tuesday. And 54-year-old Hathurusingha is very happy to get the opportunity to coach his old students again.

This Sri Lankan coach said, “It’s an honour to have been given this opportunity to coach the Bangladesh national team once again. I really loved the warmth of the people and the culture of Bangladesh. I’m looking forward to working with the players once again and enjoying their successes.”

For a few days, there were rumors about Hathurusingha’s appointment as the coach of Bangladesh. All speculations were cleared on Tuesday as he took charge of the Bangladesh national cricket team for the second time.
