DHAKA, Feb 9, 2023 (BSS) – The 21st session of 11th parliament was prorogued on Thursday after twenty-six sittings as the session started on January 5 this year.

Before reading out the prorogation order of the president, Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury presented an address of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the central Shahid Minar in Dhaka marking the historic language movement on February 21 in 1971 from the archive. 

The duration of the address was eight minutes fifty-seven seconds.

Jatiya Sangsad leader Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina delivered her valedictory speech at the closing session of the 11th parliament. Deputy Leader of the Opposition Golam Mohammad Quader also spoke.

As the session was the first in 2023 and that’s why President M Abdul Hamid usually gave address on the first day of the session. A total of 209 where 190 treasury bench lawmakers and 19 opposition lawmakers participated in the discussion on the thanksgiving motion on the President address which was brought by Chief Whip Noor-E-Alam Chowdhruy of Madaripur-1.
 
Then the discussion was unanimously adopted in the Jatiya Sangsad by voice votes.

A total of ten bills were passed in the session.

Along with the legal procedure, a total of 39 important notices under section 71 and 30 notices were also received under section 71 (kha). A notice for paying homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman marking his home coming day on January 10, 1972, was discussed and adopted in the parliament. 

A total of 99 questions were available for the prime minister’s question and answer session where 66 questions were answered by the PM during the session. The twenty-one session and the first session of 2023 were continued for 40 hours and twenty-seven minutes.

During the question answer session, 1,774 questions were answered by the ministers under different ministries with some 2,014 questions were received for the session. A total of seven standing committees report were also presented during the session.

The Jatiya Sangsad also adopted condolence motion due to the death of treasury bench lawmaker Moslem Uddin Ahmed of Chattogram-8.

Before reading out the prorogation order, the Speaker thanked all the MPs of treasury and opposition benches.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury also thanked all the MPs, officials, journalists, law enforcers and fire service and civil defence personnel for their services for smoother holding the parliament session.
